Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I see these great dogs in person?

A: Come on out to one of our public adoptions each weekend to meet the dog in person. You can visit with the dog as long as you like, and volunteers will be available to answer questions on known history about each dog. Times and locations for adoptions are listed on the home page of our website.

Q: How do I adopt a dog?

A: If you wish to adopt a dog you will be asked to fill out a S.A.F.E. House adoption application form which provides us with detailed information about your home situation, daily schedule, and suitability as a prospective dog owner. If our volunteers feel that you qualify, you will be able to take the dog home with you at that time! We do reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone for any reason.

Q: How much does the adoption cost, and what does that include?

A: Our adoption fee is $120 for each dog and $140 for each puppy which is used to help defray costs. Puppy adoption fee also includes enrollment in a puppy training class! SAFE House uses the adoption fees to ensure that each dog has already been:
- examined by a veterinarian
- screened for disease including heartworm
- spayed or neutered (non-negotiable, law requires all rescue animals to be fixed)
- received all of their initial vaccinations, including rabies
- implanted with an AVID identification microchip device under their skin. This microchip allows identification of the dog even if tags on his collar are lost.

Q: What else do I get when I adopt a rescue dog?

A: In addition to a devoted companion, when adopting your new dog you will receive an educational packet with information on feeding, crate training, housetraining, and basic obedience. This packet will also include coupons for free veterinary examinations and reduced cost obedience training. Volunteers are available through our phone line for follow up questions and additional information should you need it.

Q: How do I contact a S.A.F.E. House volunteer to ask more questions or make a donation?

A: We can be reached by phone at (281)370-0133. Please leave a detailed message and your call will be returned.

Q: Can I adopt a specific breed from your rescue group?

A: Although we do have a few purebred dogs in our lineup from time to time, the majority of our loving pooches are mixed breeds. If you are interested in finding a purebred rescue dog to adopt, you can contact the local rescue group for that breed.
