Foster requirements for people who FIND dogs:
There is a section on our website that gives you all the technicals,
but here is an overview:
If we meet the dog and agree to take him into our program, this is what he gets:
-
Placed on our website with a bio
-
We prescreen all our homes with a 3-page application to make sure it is a good
match
-
We take care of all vetting (neuter him, give him all his shots, microchip
him, heartworm test, etc.)
-
We hold adoption clinics every Saturday at one of two locations
-
We can provide a collar, ID tag, leash, and we will loan out
crates
Now, in return for this, we require our regular foster homes (people who foster
dogs we pull from high kill shelters) to do the following:
-
Provide a loving indoor home for the dog until it is adopted
-
We ask that they provide food, but if they can't we can provide it for them
-
Work on basic obedience with the dog to help get them ready for a new home
(includes house and crate training if necessary)
-
Bring the dog to our adoption clinics on Saturdays
Since we do not take in strays and help people who do, only on a case-by-case
basis, we have a couple extra requirements:
-
We require a donation ($30-$50) to help defray medical costs if the dog has
had no vet care prior to coming to our rescue. If the dog has had a heartworm
test and vaccinations, this donation is usually waived.
-
If the dog is adopted and returned within a short period of time (6 months),
we require that you take the dog back until it is adopted again (we do the same
thing with our regular foster homes, as the fewer homes the dog has, the fewer
behavioral issues are likely to develop)
